Steven Allon, (he/him), MD, Vanderbilt University Medical Center

Overview: This academic poster will present our course on LGBTQ+ health, an interdisciplinary program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center that enhances knowledge in medical, surgical, and psychiatric care for LGBTQ+ patients. It emphasizes the critical analysis of biases and the provision of equitable care. The curriculum is integrated with VIVID Health, offering students a blend of foundational science and clinical application, covering topics from gender-affirming hormone therapy biochemistry to epidemiological trends. Students gain comprehensive insights across disciplines, including endocrinology and healthcare policy, and engage in clinical experiences within LGBTQ+ health-focused clinics, acquiring practical skills in gender-affirming treatments, HIV prevention, and trauma-informed care.

Objectives: 1.) Illustrate the process of designing an interdisciplinary LGBTQ+ health curriculum for undergraduate medical students, focusing on integrating medical, surgical, and psychiatric specialties to enhance knowledge and skills for equitable patient care. 2.) Demonstrate methods for incorporating hands-on clinical experiences with foundational science education, emphasizing the development of competencies in gender-affirming treatments, HIV prevention, and trauma-informed care within an LGBTQ+ health-focused curriculum.
