Priya Jagadeesan, MD, LGBTQ+ Fellow, Vanderbilt University Medical Center

Priya Jagadeesan, (she/her) an internal medicine physician, grew up in South Texas. Her exposure to the medically underserved population there ignited her interest in caring for other historically underserved patients. She attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, with concentrations in Care of the Underserved and Space Medicine.

During her Care of the Underserved curriculum, she attended lectures, workshops, and conferences dedicated to identifying and intervening in situations where a patient may be a refugee, asylee, or victim of human trafficking. In the Space Medicine courses, she learned about the effects of microgravity on human physiology, attended lectures given by flight surgeons and astronauts, and completed a literature review detailing the role of ultrasound in diagnosis and treatment of conditions that may arise in spaceflight.

She then completed her internal medicine residency at Case Western Reserve MetroHealth Medical Center, the safety net hospital for Cleveland, Ohio. Her training started just as the COVID 19 pandemic reared its head. During these difficult days in the hospital, she discovered a passion for LGBTQ+ Health while working at the Pride Clinic. This led to her applying for fellowships in LGBTQ+ Health, which she is now finishing up at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

She will soon be jetting off to sunny Palm Springs to continue her work in primary care of the LGBTQ+ community.
