Elana Redfield (she/her) coordinates the Institute’s legal research and analysis related to federal and state policies that impact Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender people. Elana comes to UCLA from the New York City Department of Social Services, where she oversaw the agency’s initiative to improve safety net services and homelessness interventions for LGBTQI+ communities.
Prior to this, Elana served as a Staff Attorney for the Sylvia Rivera Law Project, where she utilized direct legal representation, impact litigation, public education, and policy strategies to help meet survival needs and promote the self-determination of low-income transgender people and transgender people of color. Elana is a 2008 graduate of CUNY School of Law and a 2003 graduate of New York University.
